The deadlines for applying to reception and primary school places is coming up soon, on January 15th. Over 350 Notts families have not yet applied, and need to do so in order to have any say over which schools their children might be placed in.
Even if you have already applied - across the County almost 40% of parents have only given one preference for a single school in their application. We really don't recommend this, and advise that you give multiple options (you have up to four choices). We will endeavour to give as many people as possible their first choice, last year 98% secured their first choice, and adding additional options does not make you less likely to get your first choice.
However, if you unfortunately do not get your first choice and you have not given any other options, you could be allocated a school that you don't want or can't manage. You can avoid a whole raft of problems if you are unfortunate enough to be one of the 2% who can't get their first choice, by offering some alternatives in advance.
Nobody wants that to happen, so please, a final call to parents: Make sure you apply for a primary school place, and you have until January 15th to update your application to include multiple choices. You will not lose anything by doing this, but it will protect you from the possibility of getting a place at a school that you are unhappy with. I'll repeat that offering a second, third or fourth choice does not make you any less likely to get your preferred school. It could, however, save you a lot of potential upset. Please do it.
