Last week I met up with the CEO of Lincolnshire Co-op Alison Hands and colleagues at their Cavendish Way store in Clipstone with Councillor Scott Carlton.
We talked about the rise in assaults on shop workers and in shoplifting in general, which is truly disgraceful behaviour. Our retail workers put themselves in harms way during Covid to keep stores open, and us fed, and for them to be treated like this is shameful.
I am therefore extremely pleased the Government is making it a specific criminal offence to assault shop workers and I hope the courts make an example of those who do. I know the police do a great job working with businesses, especially in Hucknall and I hope we can together crack down on this terrible crime. I will keep working with Lincolnshire Co-op and other retailers to support wherever I can.
