I recently met with representatives from the Top Club in Calverton, along with local Councillors Boyd Elliott, Jane Walker and Lorraine Brown to discuss the funding needs for the club.
Calverton Miners Welfare (Top Club) host hundreds of people playing football, and they want to build a 3G pitch to enable them to host more games in all weather and give more adults and children the chance to play football.
To do this they need funding. We have had a huge amount of houses in and around Calverton, and as a result a large amount of funding has been obtained from developers as part of the Section 106 and CIL requirements.
Every developer has to pay money towards local infrastructure including sporting facilities. Labour run Gedling Borough Council are not coughing up our fair share of cash. We see the huge amount of money going into their heartland in Arnold with the ‘redevelopment’ of the Town Centre, but where is our cash?
I am working with your Local Conservative Borough Councillors to put the pressure on the Labour Leadership, and ask for them to release the funding that should be rightful spent on facilities in Calverton.
I would like to thank the Parish Council who have committed £50k out of the funding they have got from the developers. It is up to the Borough Council now to do their bit.
